Oracle of Rewilding

Welcome to a world where humans and animals inhabit each other's lives in the surreal territory of imagination. The Oracle of Rewilding is an invitation to cultivate the altered states of mind that foster our kinship with all things.

The forty-four gilt-edged cards picture uncanny animal-human hybrids, or animals and humans simply, intimately, abiding together. Bridging the gap between human animal and creaturely animal is part of an ancient, primordial story about shapeshifting and renewal. Imagining ourselves as other animals — and other animals as ourselves — generates empathy and deep emotions that we share with many fellow creatures. These emotions have the power to move us —to rewild us— supplying energy for transformation and stirring us to imagine new questions and values that are crucial to our collective survival.

The creatures in this deck are for our Trickster time — a period of chaos and disruption — as well as speaking to the enduring unity of being. Alexandra Eldridge's paintings remind us that the world of imagination is at one with nature. The accompanying 176-page full-color guidebook explores possible meaning for each card, actions to take, and offers ways to consult the cards. Encompassing stories, symbols, fairy tales, poetry, and myth — Alexandra and I draw on a full range of the world's imaginative traditions.
